A recent precedent-setting 7-year legal battle in federal court has ordered the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to take regulatory action against water fluoridation.
The ruling comes just in time to eliminate the long-standing practice of water fluoridation, which poses "unreasonable risk" to the health of children. These risk include reduced IQ in children at the previously found optimal levels of 0.7 milligrams per liter("mg/L").
Although this ruling does not specify what measures EPA should adopt to eliminate the health risks of fluoridated water towards children, the EPA is obligated by law under the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) to restrict or eliminate said risk.
What are the side effects of high levels of fluoride in drinking water?
According to this article, high levels of fluoride in water can cause the following health problems:
- Dental and skeletal fluorosis
- Bone damage
- Arthritis
- Osteoporosis
- Muscular damage
- Fatigue
- Joint-related problems
- Chronicle issues
In extreme conditions, excess amounts of fluoride could also adversely damage organs, including the heart, kidney, liver, endocrine glands, arteries and the neuron system.
It is due to this concerning and harmful effects of fluoride that are prevalent in our public water systems that has inspired our Sertodo Fluoride Water Filter Systems. Paired with the oligodynamic effects of copper and our high quality fluoride water filters, you can rest assured that your drinking water is safe for you and your family to consume.
Our British Berkefeld Ultra Fluoride Water Filters will effectively remove 98.9% of fluoride from your tap water along with harmful contaminants in a single filtration candle. Does high fluoride water affect intelligence in children?
According to Guardian, a US government report has concluded that fluoride levels in drinking water at twice the recommended limit is linked to lower IQ or intelligence in children. This report is highly significant, as it marks the first time a federal agency has formally acknowledged the potential neurological risk from high levels of fluoride exposure amongst children.
Released just last month, this long-awaited report comes from the National Toxicology Program, which is part of the Department of Health and Human Services(HHS).
Summarizing a review of various studies, including those conducted in Canada, Iran, India, China, Pakistan and Mexico, the report concluded that drinking water containing more than 1.5 milligrams of fluoride per litre(1.5 mL/g) is linked to lower IQ in young children. Please note that the safe amount of fluoridation in water recommended by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is at 0.7mL/g.
This mirrors the federal court ruling mentioned earlier that fluoridation of drinking water poses an unreasonable risk to children that needs to be mitigated immediately.
Is fluoride water good for children?
Today, the American Dental Association(ADA) continues to advocate for fluoridation, as they argue that fluoride is beneficial for preventing tooth decay. In fact, the first use of fluoridation of community water in United States was in 1945. Grand Rapids, Michigan became the first community in the world to add fluoride to their tap water.
Subsequent studies showed a significantly low levels of cavities in school children, this practice spread to other towns and cities. The CDC (Center of Disease Control and Prevention) also named community water fluoridation one of the 10 great public health achievements of the 20th century.
However, long-term exposure to fluoride levels at 1.5mL/g in drinking water has been recently linked to lower intelligence in children. That proves that fluoride water at over the safe consumption limit is harmful to children.
