Hammered Copper vs Non-Stick Pan: Which Lasts Longer?

Have you ever wondered which one lasts longer: a hammered copper pan or a conventional non-stick coated pan? In today's guide, we compare the coating, performance over time, average life span as well as the environment and cost impact for you in the long term.

Average Lifespan Comparison

As someone who has used both non-stick pans and a pure copper pan, I can confidently say that my non-stick pans only ever last 2 to 5 years maximum. I cook as much as everyday to at least 5 times a week.

With such heavy usage, I have always found the coating on my non-stick pan starting to wear off by the 1 year mark! Food starts to stick on my supposedly non-stick pan, and then I feel the need to go and purchase another non-stick pan to replace my old one.

Conventional non stick pan

On the other hand, I have never had to replace my Copper Skillet in the past 5 years. Whether I cook it on low or high heat, the tin lining has never worn off. As long as I cook with low heat, food doesn't stick to my Copper Skillet.

As someone who cooks this much, I definitely prefer my copper pan or skillet over non-stick pans. For this reason alone, I have stopped using non-stick pans for a long time.

Coating vs No Coating (The Core Difference)

Unlike conventional pans with non-stick coating, our hand hammered Copper Pan has a natural non stick tin lining that doesn't peel off over time. Non-stick coating contains PTFE-based coating that leak into your food over time, which releases PFAs also known as forever chemicals.

These chemicals have been known to contribute to liver and thyroid diseases, asthma, lowered fertility, increased cholesterol and high blood pressure in pregnant women. Highly exposed people to these harmful PFAs also have elevated risks of testicular and kidney cancer. As you can see, these health risks are too high for young families to ignore. They can have ripple effects that pass down to more than one generation.

Performance Over Time

Unlike conventional non-stick pans that only last you 2 to 3 years max, our hand hammered Copper Pans and Copper Skillet have better performance over time. The more you use your Copper Pan, the tin lining gets more seasoned. This in turn gives you great cooking results every single time.

Not to mention the already impressive design of our Copper Skillet or Copper Sauté Pan..you can literally go from cooktop to your tabletop within minutes - no extra dinnerware required!

As our Copper Pans are all made from solid 100% recycled sources of copper, they are sturdy and withstand years of use. If you look after them properly and with care, they will definitely last you for years and even decades.

The longevity of our handmade Copper Pans even extend to your next generation, which makes them the perfect family heirloom or wedding gift.

Environmental & Cost Impact

Last but not least, the environmental impact of using non-stick pans and cookware is monumental. If each household purchases a new Teflon or non-stick pan every year, imagine the carbon footprint that adds up quickly! This definitely contributes to our every growing landfill, and thus to more pollution that also directly impacts global warming.

The cost to your wallet is also very real. Investing in our long-lasting hammered copper pans just once already easily outweighs buying a new but cheap non-stick pan 20 times over.

In conclusion, hammered copper definitely lasts longer in terms of its functionality, and even sentimental value compared to non-stick pans. Not only do you get to make years of delicious family meals and memories, it is also a potential family heirloom that carries a lot of emotional history. That in itself is an irreplaceable value that non-stick pans do not have!
